Steven Frank Koenig

Steven Frank Koenig, 67, died on September 18, 2017. Steven was born on April 26, 1950 in Los Angeles, California to the late Birdie Elizabeth Brent and George Henry Koenig. He was raised in Los Angeles and attended Van Nuis High School and graduated from UCLA in 1972 majoring in History Education and Political Science. Steven then received his Master’s Degree in International Management at Maryland University. He served as a Foreign Service Officer of the U.S. State Department from 1983 until 2004.

Steven is survived by his wife, Dr. Vania Poti, who he met hiking in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. Steven had a marvelous and blessed life together with Vania for 25 years. Together they experienced great joy in the raising of Heladio and Helen, now 20 and 15 years old respectively. Steven is also survived by his sister Claudio Yamamoto and family.

Steven was a funny person, who loved to travel, hike, dive and run. Steven tremendously enjoyed his beloved family and children, his life-long friends, colleagues and the many close associated in every residential setting. Steven loved animals and volunteered for local animal shelters which turned into many opportunities for him to foster cats and walk with the dogs. Steven was also a proud member of the Sierra Club. Beginning in 2005 Steven began to spend 6 months in Fortaleza, Brazil and 6 months in the United States for 10 years, until he began his battle with tonsil cancer.
