Sue Elizabeth (Hartman) Johnson

June 30, 1928 ~ July 15, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Sue Elizabeth Hartman Johnson was born in 1928 in Norfolk, Virginia, to Frank Emerson and Helen Rhodes Hartman.  She married the love of her life, Joseph Cleveland Johnson on April 19, 1952, in the chapel at Langley Air Force Base Virginia and soon moved to Houston where they lived for the rest of their lives.

They were founding members of Corpus Christi Parish in Houston, later moving into St. Michael’s and were both active in the Church.  Sue devoted herself to Joe, who died in 2008, their three daughters and later her mother, when she came to live with them.

When her daughters married and began families of their own, she eagerly embraced her new role as “Gran” and was much beloved by all her grandchildren.

She is survived by her three daughters and one son-in-law, Helen Johnson, Elizabeth O’Neal and Laura and Dick Cureton, six grandchildren, Susannah Cockburn-Harman, Darrell O’Neal, Spencer Cureton, Margaret O’Neal, Michael Cureton, Kyle Cureton and four great-grandchildren.

She was a Lady in the Order of the Holy Sepulchre and just recently achieved a long held dream of finding her ancestor patriot and joining the Daughters of the American Revolution.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Houston.Friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening with a Rosary recited at seven o’clock at Bradshaw-Carter Memorial & Funeral Services, 1734 West Alabama Street in Houston.  A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at ten o’clock in the morning at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway in Houston.
