Alice Anne "Sanny" Bellows

July 8, 1926 ~ September 28, 2018 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Tribute

Alice Ann “Sanny” Butman Bellows died on September 28, 2018. She was the last of her generation in her family.

Sanny was born in the small town of Fremont, Ohio on July 8, 1926. She and her lovely sisters Tira and Carolyn grew up in a three-story Victorian home, around the corner from the home of President Rutherford B. Hayes. In the 30’s, Sanny attended Camp Waldemar. Later, she went to Sweetbriar College (with honors) then on to Newcomb College of Tulane where she pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma.

After World War II, Sanny married Frank who, along with some help from his brothers Warren and George, built their first home. On the chimney slab he wrote “Frank loves Sanny”. That love and devotion lasted 65 years. Eventually they moved to Meadow Lake Lane; their beautiful, happy home overflowed with four children, seven grandchildren, a multitude of pets, Frank’s enamels, and thousands of books and CDs. Family and friends were always welcome to pop in through the side door.

Sanny was pretty and petite; she was also tireless. She managed, before computers, to trace her family tree back to the 1200s. She was involved with the Junior League, St. John the Divine Church, the River Oaks Garden Club, and DAR (for 70 years!) Sanny and Frank were travelers – to faraway places and to the family home in Laguna Beach. Sanny enjoyed art, classical music, bible study, bridge at ROCC, and two scoops of chocolate mint ice cream every evening.

But her greatest joy was tending to those she loved. Above all, Sanny Bellows was a kind and gentle lady with an unshakeable faith.

“Blessed are the pure of heart for they shall see God”.

Sanny was preceded in death by her husband Franklin Williams Bellows, her son Frank Bellows, Jr., her parents Alice and Carroll Vincent Butman, and her sisters Carolyn Cleveland and Statira Overstreet.

Sanny is survived by her children: Sarah Bellows, Vince Bellows, and Alice Ann Dunlap; Sarah’s children Grant Martinez (with wife Gabriela and daughter Logan) and Kate Cody (with husband Trace and daughter Eve); Vince’s wife Elisabeth, their children Zachary and Sam; Alice’s husband Frank Dunlap, their children Mary Frances and Andrew (with wife Dominica), and Sarah Turtletaub (with husband Joe), along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

Our heartfelt thanks to Gummie Lange and Martha Erwin, faithful friends to the end, as well as to Dr. Warren Bellows for his loving care.

Friends and family are invited to a funeral service and reception at St. John the Divine Church on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at two o’clock in the afternoon where the Reverend Matt Marino is to officiate. Our family gratefully requests that contributions in honor of Sanny be made to the Brookwood Community or to the Outreach Fund at St. John the Divine Church.
