Daniel Patrick Kerschen

December 1, 1977 ~ January 25, 2024 (age 46) 46 Years Old

Danny Kerschen died peacefully in the company of family the morning of January 25, 2024, following a six-year battle with cancer. A brilliant artist, he exhibited his work in Berlin, Bogotá, Chicago, Frankfurt, Houston, Istanbul, London, New York, and Reykjavík, and founded curatorial projects such as DK-Ultra in Houston. There was no one like Danny: sweet, funny, passionate about human rights, a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, proud union man, a Marxist with a dandy’s style. He fought the good fight, giving his energy to art, activism, and community building, co-founding the Bill Hicks Resurrection Labs and working as a mentor at Workshop Houston. After earning an MFA in Art from the prestigious Städelschule in Frankfurt, he worked as a preparator at the SFO Museum. He could paint, weld, draw, and expound color theory and the global history of labor. After a 2002 cross-country bike ride, he survived a drive-by shooting, carrying shotgun shells in his heart the rest of his life.

Born in Norwich, England to George Kerschen and Rita Redmond Kerschen, raised in Houston, at home everywhere, Danny was a citizen of the world. He met his wife Paula Ropero Kerschen in Bogotá, Colombia and they lived together in Oakland, California, Ashburn, Virginia, and Wichita, Kansas. Danny was preceded in death by his mother Rita and his uncle Chuck. He is survived by his wife, Paula Ropero Kerschen, father, George, siblings, Tex, Aimée, Valerie, Travis, Nancy, and D’Arcy; their spouses, Erika, Price, Julien, and Alex; and nieces and nephew, Victoria, Eva, Luke, Joséphine, Elena, Celeste, Monty, and Inez; mother-in-law Sabrina, sister-in-law Brenda, brother-in-law Gio, as well as numerous beloved cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
