Dr. Delbert “Dennis” Myers, 79, of Houston, Texas, retired Pediatrician, passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021, at Methodist Hospital in Houston. He was born July 31, 1942, in Seymour, IN, to the late Delbert H. Myers and Lorene (Findley) Myers. Dennis was on faculty at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, Department of Community Medicine, until January 31, 2021, when he retired. Dennis was a graduate of Indiana University, School of Medicine (1967) and served in the Air Force as a physician before his residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Pediatrics, 1972. He was in private practice in Houston prior to working for Baylor College of Medicine. Throughout his career, he was passionate about caring for children and their families.
Dennis was an active member of Bering Memorial Church. He enjoyed the arts, music, and sports. As a proud alumnus and supporter of Indiana University, he was an avid IU basketball fan.
He is survived by two sisters, Janet Barkes, Seymour, IN; Sue Ellen (Lon) Williams, Land O Lakes, FL; five nieces and nephews, Curtis (Carol) Barkes, Catherine Bowie, Brent Williams, Brian (Janna) Williams, Brandon (Bethany) Williams, eleven great nieces and nephews and one great, great nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and one great nephew, Alex Barkes.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 2 2021 at three o’clock in the afternoon at Bering Memorial Church, 1440 Harold Street in Houston where the Rev. Diane McGehee is to officiate. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bering Memorial Church, Lymphoma Research Foundation, or Doctors Without Borders.
