Dorothy Fae Armstrong

April 2, 1930 ~ December 11, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Dorothy Fae Armstrong, aged 87, died peacefully in her home in Houston, Texas after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.  Dorothy was born April 2nd, 1930 in Coolidge, Texas the youngest child of Emma and James B. Whisenant. 

Survivors include her three children; David Armstrong and wife Suzy, Donna Armstrong and Stacy McNeil, and Dennis Armstrong.  Three grandchildren Derek Armstrong, Shannon Armstrong and Shelby Hammons married to Dustin Hammons. Two great grandchildren Eli Hammons and Aiden Hammons. 

Dorothy was the youngest of seven children that all preceded her in death.  They were William (Buck) Whisenant, Pauline (Bennie) Whisenant Seale, Willie Mae Whisenant Neil, James W. Whisenant, Virgil Whisenant, and Edgar B. Whisenant.

Dorothy graduated from Reagan High School and began her work life at the Federal Reserve Bank.  Later in life she began working for H.I.S.D., first at Dowling Junior High, then Sam Houston High School, and then spent the last 10 years at Waltrip High School as the secretary for the Principle. 

Over the years Dorothy was involved in many activities.  In her younger years she was very athletic and enjoyed playing softball, bowling and even square dancing.  She enjoyed sewing and upholstery work with her mother-in-law and working on quilts with her friends.  In the later years she loved working in the yard, doing genealogy research, working puzzles and reading her Westerns.  More than anything she loved spending time with her family. 

Visitation will be held Friday, December 15th from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the Bradshaw Carter Funeral Home, 1734 West Alabama, Houston, Texas 77098.  A private graveside service will be held at Forest Park Lawndale, December 16th at 10 am.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
