Elizabeth Cooper

July 10, 1943 ~ November 22, 2017 (age 74) 74 Years Old

It is with great sadness that the family of Elizabeth Carmel Cooper announces her passing on November 22nd, 2017 at the age of 74.  Elizabeth was born on July 10, 1943 in the town of Gort, in Western Ireland where she grew up as the second youngest of ten children.

At 17 she left Gort and traveled to America where she initially entered a Convent in New York. Several years later she returned to Europe and lived in London England. It was here working at Nestle that she met her husband John.  They were married on 23rd March, 1968 in Hayes, London. Their first son Sean Matthew was born in July 1969 and their second son Mark James in November 1971.

While raising her boys she worked first as a child minder and later at the local grocery store Tesco’s. Elizabeth volunteered a lot, mostly helping the elderly and always giving whenever she could and sometimes when she could not. She saw everyone else as having greater problems then her own and gave everyone the benefit of the doubt.

After retirement Elizabeth finally fulfilled her lifelong dream of living by the sea when she and John moved to Bexhill-on-Sea, where their apartment looked out across the English Channel.  Although no longer working Elizabeth continued to look out for others, helping the elder residents in their own building. She also split her time between England and Houston, to be close to her children.

Finally in the fall of 2016 her sons convinced her to make the permanent move to America.  In spring of 2017 John and Elizabeth sold their house and moved all of their possessions to Houston, Texas.  She was surrounded by her family for the last months of her life.

Elizabeth enjoyed cooking, knitting, crocheting and the Daily Telegraph Crossword.  Her most important interests in her life were her family and her religion.  It was the foundation of her life and helped her through so many life situations.

She is survived by her husband of over 49 years John, her sons Sean (Cindy) and Mark (Mandi), her five grandchildren Chloe, Aaron, Alex, Luke and Declan, her sisters Bridget and Bernadette, her brothers Ignatious (Philo) and Bernard (Hannie) and countless nieces and nephews.  As she always said “You will miss me when I’m gone.”  We already do.
