It is with heartfelt sorrow and abounding grace that we announce the passing of our huge-hearted mother, Elizabeth Davis. She died peacefully with her devoted children at her side on February 10, 2020.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Sarah Faulkner Jackson, and her parents, Sarah Drumm Faulkner and Andrew Davis Faulkner.
Left to cherish her memories and carry on her practice of kindness are her son, Charles Louis Davis IV (Chip) and daughter, Sarah Davis and daugher in laws, Renee Donmingue Davis and Lauren Faye Bruder: grandchildren James Davis, Laurel Davis and Charles Davis.
Betty was born in Houston, Texas on June 24, 1936. She attended Smith College and The University of Texas. She married Robert Wheeles Davis with whom she had her two adoring children.
She had always sought out the serenity of nature and in her later years lived in Sedona, Arizona among the majestic red rocks. There, she made a peaceful life of good friends and neighbors, gardening and helping travelers that journeyed through Sedona.
A dear friend of Betty’s that lived with her in Sedona generously contributed these words,“She is special because she walks in the rhythm of this place. People sense that.
She does something in the very simplicity of her life that no one can touch with all our
pursuits of 'something else'. Betty treated every person she met with the same attention she gave her garden — showing care and hoping they would thrive. Since Betty has left, we miss an icon walking through the village. The world continues on its quest to overbuild, overcharge and overpass the values this woman was reminding the world of in her everyday life — love, compassion and humor are what we take with us.”
We thank Summer Hutto and the angels of the Farrington for the wonderful care they provided.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Verde Valley Caregivers in Sedona, AZ at https://vvcaregivers.org. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held Wednesday, February 19th, 2:00 pm, St John the Divine Chapel, 2450 River Oaks Blvd. Houston, Texas 77019.
