Fr. Thomas William Sepulveda, CSB

Father Thomas Sepulveda, CSB died peacefully on March 11, 2023. He was 79 years old and had been a member of the Congregation of the Priest of St. Basil (Basilian Fathers) for 59 years. 

Father Sepulveda was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 7, 1944, the son of Mauro Sepulveda and Mary Provencher. A graduate of Our Lady Gate of Heaven School and Visitation High School, he entered St. Basil’s Novitiate, Pontiac, Michigan, in 1963. He took his first vows in 1964 and then went to the University of St. Thomas where he earned a B.A. degree in 1968. He taught one year at Aquinas Institute in Rochester and one year at Catholic Central High School in Detroit before beginning his theological studies in Toronto, where he earned a M.Div. degree from the University of St. Michael’s College.

After ordination Fr. Sepulveda spent the next 47 years lovingly serving the poor in parish ministry in Mexico and in Detroit and Texas. After retiring he lived with his Basilian brothers at Dillon House in Houston before moving to Silverado Hermann Park Memory Care Community.

Father Sepulveda was preceded in death by his parents and two of his sister: Jean Reichard and Patricia Furtah. He is survived by his sister, Lynn Sinelli along with many loving nieces and nephews. He is mourned by his Basilian brothers and the many people whom he served over the years. Special thanks to the people at Silverado-Hermann Park who cared for him.

A concelebrated funeral Mass will be at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2140 Westheimer Road on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Basilian plot in Forest Park Cemetery, Lawndale on Saturday, March 18 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Basilian Fathers Missions in Mexico (St. Joseph’s Mission Center, PO Box 708, Sugar Land TX 77487-0708).
