George Van Os passed away peacefully on June 22, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. George was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 7, 1940, and graduated from St. George High School in Evanston, Illinois in 1958. He received an Illinois State Scholarship to Bradley University, and after graduating in 1962, he moved to Houston to attend The University of Houston Law Center, where he was an editor of the Law Review. George met Nancy Atkins in 1964, and after marrying in 1965, they embarked upon their devotion of raising two children, Laura and Chip. George had a successful career as a real estate attorney and he continued to practice law through this year. George was an avid fan of all sports, and he was a dedicated coach of his children’s teams. He was also known as a faithful and exuberant fan of all his family’s sporting events, and the occasional dance concert. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends whenever he had the chance. George loved exploring the world with his lifelong travel partner, Nancy, and he was a great pal, neighbor and big brother to his sisters and sisters-in-law. He was a daily communicant at St. Michael Catholic Church. George’s favorite recent memory was attending Game 5 of the 2017 Astros World Series with his son and grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Evelyn Van Os. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy, children Laura Gilchrist and Chip Van Os, son-in-law Andy Gilchrist, daughter-in-law Christina Van Os, grandchildren Mackie Gilchrist, Georgia Van Os, Ellie Gilchrist, Anna Van Os, and Henry Van Os, and sisters Mary Berg and Judy Macha.
A funeral celebrating George’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at two o’clock in the afternoon at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road.
