Gretchen Thompson

Gretchen Hill Thompson left for Heaven on Monday, October 4, 2021, at 9 AM, surrounded by loving family. She was born in Galveston, Texas, on December 29, 1935, to Mary Agnes and Benjamin Franklin Hill, who both preceded her in death. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Kara Annette Thompson, and her adored granddaughters, Jacey Marie Dlabal (“Sugar Plum”) and Juliana Jolie Dlabal (“Sweet Pea”).

Gretchen grew up as a devout Catholic. She attended Ursuline Academy in Galveston and later graduated from Ball High School in 1953. Gretchen was an intellectual with a passion for reading, the English language, and politics.   She initially studied Plan 2 at the University of Texas in Austin, and later completed her Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, at the University of Houston in 1970. She also attended English graduate school, taught English classes, and attended law school at The University of Houston. Her dream was to practice law, but she chose to raise her child rather than complete her graduate education. Later, she developed an interest in the stock market and embarked on a career as a stock broker and financial planner. In retirement, her joy in life was time spent with her daughter and precious grandchildren.  She will be sorely missed.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021 at St. Ann Catholic Church  in Houston at two o’clock in the afternoon with burial at Glenwood Cemetery to follow.
