James Athanasion, 92, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on September 3, 2020. James was born to Eugene Athanasion and Athena Athanasion on June 27, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA. He enlisted in the army in 1946 and was discharged in August 1947. He graduated from Temple University with a degree in Geology in 1951. He was first employed by Gulf Oil as a Geophysical trainee. He worked most of his career in the oil and gas industry and retired from Pennzoil in 1990. He then consulted for a few years after that.
James was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He was a member of AHEPA and was treasurer of Chapter 29 for several years. He was an avid gardener and grew beautiful roses. He also enjoyed fishing, kayaking, jazz music and opera.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Christine, son Eugene and grandson James, Daughter Patricia, grandson Zachary, granddaughter Alexandria and great grandson Dante. He is also survived by his sister Evelyn and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday September 11, 2020 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3511 Yoakum Blvd Houston, TX 77006. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 am with the funeral service starting at 10:30 am. Graveside service will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
