Jean Elizabeth Zak, a resident of Avanti Assisted Living Center, passed away peacefully the morning of December 11, 2018. She was 85 years of age.
She was the eldest daughter born to parents Clarence and Addie [Wallace] Springfield in Maryland. Jean was raised and graduated from Annapolis High School, where she excelled in secretarial and managerial skills.
Upon graduation, she worked for the United States government.
Her family lived directly across from the Naval Academy, where she met her first husband. While in the Air Force, they traveled the world extensively and eventually landed in College Station, Texas. She worked for 20-plus years at Texas A&M University.
She met William J. Zak, Jr., in the late 70’s, who was a popular KTRH radio personality in Houston, Texas. They lived a happy and wonderful life for 36 years, until his passing in 2011.
Jean is survived by her four daughters: Julie Hewitt, Valerie Thompson and her husband, Michael, Leslie Siller and Paige Hewitt; two sisters: Mae Weir and daughter Stephanie Weir and Doris Lowry, Grandchildren, Heather Hietpas and husband, Andy, Lauren Thompson and husband, Eric Pace, Chance Siller, Alexandra Siller, Jordan Sharp, Hannah Cessnun and several Great Grandchildren. She was affectionately known by her grandchildren and great grandchildren as “Grandy Goose.”
She is also survived by six step-children: Debbie Zak, Marci Goforth, Gary Zak, Dana Veseleny, Lisa Smith and Steve Zak.
The family wishes to especially thank Marsha Lewis, Veronica Hernandez and the entire staff at Avanti Senior Living for their tender and loving care of Mom during her “autumn” years.
