Jeanie Panagos Colias, age 86, passed away on September 29, 2020, at her home in Houston after a long illness.
She was born October 21, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa to George and Sophia Panagos. By the time she was two, the Panagos family moved to Houston and Jeanie always considered herself a Houstonian.
After graduating from Reagan High School, Jeanie spent many years working for Humble Oil (ExxonMobil). She married the great love of her life, George Colias, in 1962, and they lived in San Antonio until 1977 when they returned to Houston to be closer to Jeanie’s extended family.
After her 25+ year career at Exxon, Jeanie also worked as a personal secretary and then spent 10 years as a Branch Office Administrator at Edward Jones, not retiring until she was 85. Along the way she also started and operated several small businesses with her sisters.
Jeanie was known for her laugh and her thoughtfulness toward others. For many years she was a member of a social group called The Birthday Girls which met for dinner every month. Her decades long friendships among the group were incredibly meaningful to her. She was also a lifelong member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Sophia Panagos, her husband George W. Colias, her sisters Georgia Voinis and Mari Papadakis Vannerson, and her grandson George Keltner.
She is survived by her daughter Sophia Colias, her daughter Christina Colias Griffin and husband William, her grandchildren Richard Keltner and Mariah Keltner, her sister Dorothy Pappas, and her nieces and nephews: Georgia Hardy (Michael), Chris Pappas (Tina), Gregory Voinis, Stephanie Alvarez (Rafael), Michael Voinis (Kristi), Thomas Papadakis (Wendy), and Lainie Minnick (Adam).
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7 at 9:00 am followed by the funeral service at 10:00 am at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3511 Yoakum Blvd, Houston, TX 77006
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Philoptochos Society of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Houston.
