Kit and family: I was so sorry to hear about John's passing. As you know, I worked for him for more than 15 years. He was a dear, supportive man with his graduate students and all who worked with him. We will all miss him.

Dear Kit,
It is so unexpected to receive this news of Jack's passing. I did not know that he had been so ill. I haven't seen you in awhile but I have such fond memories of our times in San Miguel. I will offer my Sunday Mass for Jack and you. I know you will miss him but you know he is in a far far better place.
My love and prayers,
Sylvia Cameron

I met John in the late 70’s, a little after my arrival as a junior faculty member at the University of Houston. We had similar research interests, and that led to our professional interaction at several levels, locally and internationally. John for me was a stellar example of what a university professor should be: dedicated to his teaching and students, passionate about his research, much involved in service to professional societies… He was a true champion of Bioengineering, to which he contributed in many ways, especially through the Houston Society for Engineering in Medicine and Biology, of which he was a co-founder.
I feel very privileged to have known and to have interacted with John professionally. John was also a good friend and a gracious host. I spent many hours on several occasions at his house, musing with him and Kit about all sorts of things, sharing thoughts and trying to define the meaning of it all… It was during those times that I realized what an enriching experience was for me to have known John and his family.
I know that the last few months were extremely hard for John’s family, especially for Kit. For sure, John’s departure has caused great sorrow to her and his loved ones. My deepest sympathy goes to Kit and her family. I would like for them to know that John was a truly valuable encounter in my life, a person who contributed a lot to my professional as well as personal development.

What a joy it was to assist such a wonderful man. I had the pleasure of helping him install Acrobat on his laptop one day, and he was always grateful for the help. May God bless John through his eternal journey in Heaven.
