John Howard Sanders, II

John Howard Sanders, 71 years of age, died Wednesday morning, May 30, 2018, at home, following complications from two strokes and congestive heart failure.  He was born February 14, 1947 (Valentine's Day), in Louisville, Kentucky.   John was an instructor with the U. S. Air Force in Biloxi, Mississippi.  Following his discharge in 1970, he attended the University of South Alabama, in Mobile on the GI Bill.  He graduated with a BS in Accounting in 1973.  John received his MBA from Sam Houston State University in Texas in 2009,  while employed full time as the Business Development Director for BKD, a public accounting firm in Houston.  He was employed by Arthur Andersen & Co. in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Houston, Texas for ten years.  John was the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of several Texas Savings and Loans and served as the CFO of two major waste management companies in Houston and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, both of which joined the New York Stock Exchange on his watch.  
John was preceded in death by his father and mother, John Howard and Katherine McConnell Sanders.  He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Blalack Sanders.   John was known as the "smartest guy in the room" and was everyone's sweetheart.  He enjoyed life to the fullest and will be missed by his many friends.   Shirley is grateful for the wonderful care he received at CHI St. Luke's Hospital and Garden Terrace Skilled Nursing Facility.  She is especially grateful to his home caregiver, Mario Okoro.
