Tribute

Koralia Varcados, devoted wife, mother of two sons, grandmother of four, passed away peacefully in Houston, TX on Thursday, the 18th of March 2021, surround by her family.  Koralia lived her life to the fullest all while facing her battle against cancer with fierce strength and grace.
Koralia was born in Cairo, Egypt on the 2nd of December 1947, to Maria and Thomas Papadopoulou.  Koralia was raised in Leros, Greece and moved to Houston when she married her beloved husband, John Jack Varcados in 1967.
Beautiful inside and out, a mother, homemaker and hostess, she was an exceptional cook, avid traveler, spirited conversationalist and most of all a loving wife to her husband, John, and devoted mother to her sons, Jack and Thomas.
Koralia loved to laugh and had a flair for making people feel happy and welcome.  She was very fashionable and loved putting her skills to work creating a beautiful environment for the home that she loved.  She particularly loved decorating and entertaining during the Christmas season, her favorite time of the year.  
Koralia was cared for by a team of excellent caregivers. The family wishes to thank the late Dr. De Ipolyi at St. Joseph’s Hospital and MD Anderson Cancer Center, including, Dr. Schmeler, Dr. Tsimberidou, Dr. Kadia, along with their staff for their compassion, dignity and respect.  Thank you most of all for Maria Varcados, her daughter-in-law, for being a great companion and navigating the challenges of her treatment.
Koralia is survived by John Varcados, her husband of 54 years; his children Jack Varcados and his wife, Maria Varcados, Thomas Varcados and his wife, Tara Varcados; grandchildren, John Varcados, George Varcados, Nicholas Varcados and Jonathan Varcados.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Mrs. Varcados’ name be directed to the Benevolent Fund at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Houston, TX.  www.agoc.org/donate/stewardship [agoc.org]
