Lester Davis Cochran

January 16, 1935 ~ October 28, 2021 (age 86)


Lester Davis Cochran (Les), 86, passed away on October 28, 2021 in Houston, Texas. He was born in Brownwood, Texas to parents Lester and Emma Cochran. As the child of a Baptist Minister, he grew up in Texas, New Mexico, California, and Washington before graduating from Brownwood High School.  He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1956, went on active duty in the US Army, and continued in the Army Reserves as a JAG Officer, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.  He graduated from The University of Texas Law School in 1960.  He began practicing law in Abilene as an assistant City Attorney, and eventually became Abilene City Attorney. He moved to Houston in 1970 and continued his passion of practicing law as a trial lawyer.  He was board certified in both Personal Injury and Civil Trial Law.  He is survived by his wife and best friend, Barbara ‘Bobbie’ Cochran, and his adored children Jim Cochran and his wife, Betsy, David Cochran and his wife, Kay C, Leah Freeman, Amy Ashton and her husband, Mel, Jeff Cochran and his wife, Kara, Ashley Cochran, and Matthew Cochran.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sheryl Contreras, Joel Cochran, Spencer Cochran, Emma Cochran, Beau Sperry, Brian Ashton, Andrew Ashton, Jack Cochran, Laura Cochran, Ella Cochran, and his great-grandchild, Prince Contreras, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

In addition to being a trial lawyer, Les had many interests, including photography and scuba diving. His love of scuba diving moved him to spend six months on a scavenger boat looking for sunken treasure, and later to becoming a certified scuba diving instructor.  He volunteered with many organizations including an AIDS respite team through South Main Baptist Church, Covenant House, SEARCH, and Houston Volunteer Lawyers. 

Funeral services will be held in Glenwood Cemetery on Wednesday, November 3 at 1:00 PM. There will be a viewing that morning at Bradshaw-Carter Funeral Home, 1734 W Alabama St, Houston, Tx.
