Marcia Harriet Mattis Shaw

June 29, 1928 ~ December 15, 2019 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Tribute

Compassionate.  Wise.  Courageous.  Accepting.  Kind.  Warm.

Perceptive. Insightful. Supportive. Talented.  Sophisticated.

Funny as heck.

Marcia Shaw died peacefully at home in Houston on December 15th, 2019.  She was born in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Ruth and Samuel Mattis.  Marcia studied briefly at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and graduated from Hunter College in New York, where she majored in English.  Marcia was the loving wife of 50 years of David Shaw, who preceded her in death.   After retiring from the business that she and her husband founded after moving to Houston in 1978, Marcia became an active and valued volunteer at the Alzheimers Association of Southeast Texas and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston.  She is survived by her two daughters, Valerie Shaw of Houston, and Barbara Shaw (Carmen Aguilar) of Chicago, beloved nieces and nephews and friends.

We are so grateful to have had Marcia Shaw in our lives.  At the age of 91, she could still recite ancient Greek poetry, and enjoyed keeping up with current events.  We will honor her every day, carrying on her spirit of joy and optimism, interest in others, belief in fairness and justice, and her outrageously marvelous sense of humor.

A memorial service has been held.
