Marian Fowlkes Minniece

Marian Fowlkes Minniece, age 78, passed away after a short illness on July 17, 2017. Marian was born on September 9, 1938, in Alpine, Texas, to Patricia Stewart Fowlkes and James M.H. Fowlkes, a pioneer ranching family. She grew up on the Sauceda Ranch near Marfa, TX.
Marian attended Sullins College in Virginia and graduated from the University of Texas. With loving kindness for all, she adored her life in Houston raising her four children and cultivating lasting friendships, which enriched her life beyond measure. She was a proud member of the River Oaks Blossom Club, Pi Beta Phi Mother’s Club and a patron of the Junior League Tearoom for over 50 years.
Marian had a lifelong love of genealogy and was a dedicated member of numerous historical organizations, including Magna Charta Dames and Jamestown Society. She was immensely proud of her family history and authored a beautiful book on the Fowlkes and Stewart families.
Marian is survived by her four beloved children: John Gresham Minniece, IV and wife Durley of Seattle, WA; Laurie Minniece Schlesinger of Houston, TX; Patricia Minniece Benington and husband George of New Canaan, CT; and Joseph Thomas Minniece and wife Anna of Irvine, CA. She will be missed by her much-loved grandchildren: Grace Mitchell Schlesinger, John Gresham Schlesinger, Edward Fowlkes Schlesinger, Arthur George Benington and Peter Shea Benington.
Marian is also survived by her five younger siblings: Clegg Fowlkes of Marfa, TX; J.M. Fowlkes, Jr. of Pecos, TX; Lauren Fowlkes of Naples, FL; Nancy Fowlkes Donley of San Antonio, TX; and Maco Fowlkes of Houston, TX. She also leaves dear Fowlkes, Morris, Stewart and Carl cousins, who were so supportive throughout her life. 
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from three o’clock in the afternoon until six o’clock in the evening on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Bradshaw-Carter Memorial and Funeral Services, 1734 West Alabama Street, Houston, Texas. Following a private burial at Glenwood Cemetery on Monday, July 24, 2017, a memorial service will be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon at The Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston. Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Sumners Hall.
Marian was a lifelong member of the Episcopal church and, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her loving memory to The Church of St. John the Divine.
