Mary Magdalene"Puddin" Iacono

June 27, 2017

Mary Magdalene “Puddin” Iacono, a native Houstonian, passed away June 27, 2017 after almost five decades of a valiant battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

“Aunt Puddin” - as she was known to many - was born September 23, 1943. She is preceded in death by her parents Vito N.R. Iacono, Sr. and Josie Triola Iacono, siblings Josie Marie Iacono Hard, Sam Iacono and Vito N.R. Iacono, II. She is survived by nephew and godson, Vito “Scooter” Hard Iacono; nephews and niece Rocco Hard, Amy Iacono Bergman and Vito N.R. Iacono, III; great nephews and niece, Matthew and Samuel Hard, Charlotte Bergman and Vincent Iacono; special godchildren, Frank Triola and Nancy Newman as well as numerous cousins and dear lifelong friends.

“Zia” took great pride in her Italian heritage and culture. This was demonstrated through her wonderful cooking and outstanding baking, annual St. Joseph altar, and also by keeping our past alive by telling stories of our history including her father’s immigration from Naples.

As her disease progressed many marveled at what she was still able to do. She would bake at all hours. We are most grateful for her longtime assistant and dear friend Maria Diaz. Her determination to not let her body limit her was most amazing when she cared for her mother and her sister when they were ill. Her Spirit was indomitable. Her Faith was inspiring.

While she no longer suffers and there is much to celebrate as she reunites with her siblings, parents and others, it is still very sad to not have her endless love and support.

Friends are invited to a visitation to be held at Bradshaw Carter, 1734 W. Alabama St. from three until nine o’clock on Friday, the 7th of July, where recitation of the Holy Rosary is to commence at seven o’clock.
