Mimi Meredith McDugald

June 26, 1923 ~ June 21, 2018 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Tribute

Mimi Meredith McDugald died peacefully on Thursday June 21, 2018 in Houston, Texas. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many.  She will be greatly missed.

Mimi was born in Houston on June 26, 1923 to Mary and Otis Meredith. She was a proud graduate of the first four-year graduating class of Lamar High School and The University of Texas, where she was also a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Mimi was an active volunteer and member for many years with the Junior League of Houston, the River Oaks Garden Club, the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, and St. John the Divine Episcopal Church. Gifted with a vivacious and generous spirit, Mimi truly never met a stranger and easily developed long-term, loving friendships with people of all ages and backgrounds. In recent years, Mimi especially enjoyed the company of her friends at the Hallmark.

Mimi had a special fondness for the Texas Hill Country where she enjoyed many happy summers as a camper at Camp Waldemar in Hunt, Texas, and with family and friends at the family home on the Guadalupe River. Hunt, Texas is also where Mimi first met a handsome Rio Vista camp counselor, Billy McDugald, who she married on July 1, 1944. After their marriage, Mimi and Billy settled in Houston and raised their family of four boys.  Mimi was a devoted wife and mother, and also an enthusiastic participant in all outdoor activities -- golf, tennis, fishing and hunting.  Mimi was not shy about noting that her skills in these areas often surpassed those of the men around her. Mimi was also a consummate hostess and delighted in treating family and friends to abundant meals at her table. To spend time with Mimi was always entertaining, and at each encounter she was outspoken and clear about her strong love for her family and friends, her strong faith in the Lord and her gratitude for the many blessings of her life.

Mimi is preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband Billy McDugald, her brother and sister-in-law, Otis Meredith Jr. and Lyle Meredith, and her beloved son Douglas.  She is survived by her children: William Hogg McDugald, Jr., Michael Otis McDugald, and Richard Wallace McDugald and wife Martha; her five grandchildren: Will, Tim and Patrick McDugald of Houston and Brenna and Charles McDugald of Los Angeles; and nephews Andrew Meredith, James McDugald and wife Linda and Tom McDugald and wife Sally.

The family is deeply grateful for the many years of care, love and friendship provided to Mimi by Robert Cantu, Jovita Guardardo, Edith Elias and Ericka Ferrioli.

A memorial service celebrating Mimi’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at eleven o’clock in the morning at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard. Immediately following, guests are invited to a reception in Sumner Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mimi’s memory may be directed to Tony’s Place for Homeless Young People, 1621 McGowen, 77004; the Houston Botanic Garden, 3701 Kirby, Ste. 992, 77098; or the charity of your choice.
