Polly G. Koch, age 65, died on November 28, 2017, in Houston, Texas. Polly was born in Houston, moved to Owensboro, Kentucky, at age 10, and graduated as valedictorian from Owensboro Senior High school before earning a B.A. degree at Beloit College. After living in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she was a Stanford University Stegner Fellow, she moved back to Houston where she earned a M.A. degree in Creative Writing from the University of Houston under the mentorship of Donald Barthelme. Her novel, Invisible Borders, was published by Simon & Schuster in 1991 and she had many short stories published in literary publications over the years. She wrote mystery novel reviews for the Houston Chronicle and her free-lance writing and editing services were in great demand. Polly was preceded in death by her parents Robert O. Koch and Georgia Rhey Owens Koch. Polly will forever be lovingly remembered by her sisters Kathy Koch Pierce (Mike) of The Woodlands, Texas, and Robin Koch Howard (Sam Carl) of Louisville, Kentucky; nieces Michelle Pierce Miseldine (Matt) of Castle Rock, Colorado; Kellie Pierce Brady (Ryan) of Walker, Louisiana; Caroline Pierce Johnson (Ashton) of Spring, Texas; Elizabeth Howard More (Chris) of Washington DC; and Sarah Howard of New Orleans, Louisiana; nephew Robert Howard of Raleigh, North Carolina; great-nephew Braden More of Washington DC; many loved cousins from the Koch and Owens families; and friends and colleagues across the United States. At her request, there will be no memorial service. Polly bettered the lives of all whose path she crossed, including her beloved dachshunds. Should friends desire, contributions are welcome in Polly’s memory to Dachshund Rescue of Houston, P.O. Box 580, Friendswood, Texas, 77549.
