Roy Lightner

August 14, 1947 ~ July 21, 2020 (age 72) 72 Years Old

Tribute

Roy Lightner, 72, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Memorial City Memorial Hermann Hospital after a heroic battle with heart disease and Leukemia. He was born on August 14, 1947 slightly before his twin sister, Mary Rose, in Akron, Ohio to parents, Rose Josephine Leikieh and Jess Chester Lightner. They both attended and graduated from Archbishop Hoban High School, where Roy excelled in football and developed a lifelong love affair with football and anything to do with sports. Roy attended Ohio State University during the glory days of Coach Woody Hayes where he played outside linebacker.

Roy became a Stuart James Investment Banker, he was appointed as an Economic Advisor during the Reagan Administration and appointed to the Commerce Department of the World Bank.

In 1987 Roy moved to Houston, Texas where he became a Certified Personal Trainer, receiving his education from Baylor College of Sports Medicine and and also licensed by the American Council on Exercise and Professional Fitness Instructor Training. He built a loyal and and dedicated list of notable clients and athletes such as Astro Lance Berkman, Rockets star Robert Reid, and Rice University star Austin Davies. Roy's passion was to inspire normal people and educate them about safe, effective exercise techniques while motivating them to achieve their best lifestyle. He was constantly striving to continue his knowledge through Baylor College of Sports Medicine.

Roy was a Renaissance man becoming an antiques dealer and art restorer with multiple locations around town, most notably the Antique Pavilion and the Market Place Mall. He was a fixture at the local auction venues, Austin, and New Orleans. He was valued for his quick wit and gentle, genial input. He was always ready with a "story" or a joke.

Roy is survived by his twin sister, Mary Rose (Carl), his son Todd Lightner (Britta), and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and his older brother, Jess George Lightner. Roy will be missed by his numerous friends, clients, coworkers, and customers. He is gone way too soon, and there is a huge hole in our hearts.
