Sandra Jeane-Sallye Lyday, born November 20, 1940 in Port Arthur, Texas, to Joe and Mary Adley Lyday, passed away on August 31, 2018. She is survived by her two children: son Richard Harwood Pearce, Jr., of Houston, Texas, and daughter Sandra Jeane Mitchell of Seattle, Washington. She is also survived by her mother, sister Judy Beck, a nephew and numerous nieces and cousins. Preceding her in death were husband Joseph Hebert of Beaumont, Texas, and her father.
Sandra graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur and Greenbrier College for Women in Lewisburg, West Virginia. After college, Sandra moved back to Texas and operated a successful family-owned valve company, Southern Valve. A longtime resident of Port Arthur, Sandra moved to Houston to be closer to family in 2009.
An avid traveler, Sandra enjoyed numerous trips with her children throughout her life, including trips to Hawaii, Alaska, Norway, British Columbia, and Europe. She was most happy when she could accompany “her boys” on ski trips to Lake Tahoe, but it was her children who brought her the greatest joy.
Friends are invited to join the family on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at two o’clock in the afternoon with a memorial service starting at half past two o’clock and a reception to follow at Bradshaw-Carter Memorial & Funeral Services, 1734 West Alabama Street in Houston.
Memorial contributions may be made on Sandra’s behalf to MD Anderson Cancer Center or to the American Cancer Society.
