Welcome to the memorial page for

Sommer A. Layden

July 25, 1985 ~ September 9, 2017 (age 32) 32 Years Old

Sommer Ashley Terry Layden, 32, of Houston, Texas, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017. Sommer was born July 25, 1985. She was the much anticipated child of Robert and Ruth Terry. She married the love of her life, Kirk Layden, on November 12, 2016 in a beautiful service in Cozumel, Mexico surrounded by friends and family.

From the beginning, Sommer was passionate about her family; cooking with her mother; watching the game with her dad; playing dress up with her younger sister, Starla, and spending time with her godmother, Vanessa.  She was a cheerleader at Lamar High School, and moved on to The University of Alabama, before graduating with honors from Columbia College in Chicago, but her heart always remained with the Crimson tide.

As a young adult, Sommer’s impeccable style flourished and she used her talents in Los Angeles to work on shows such as The Mindy Project and X Factor. Sommer had a bright smile and sharp wit that brought laughter to her dearest friends. She was fiercely loyal and those lucky to call her a friend could feel the warmth of her tough love. Her compassion for animals was boundless, and she spent much of her time fostering and advocating for those who couldn’t, including her beloved dog Rue. Some of her favorite times were holidays at home with her family, in particular building and decorating gingerbread houses with her cherished nieces and nephew. After their wedding, Sommer and Kirk embarked on an adventure to Chicago, where they were excited to welcome their twin babies.

Sommer is survived by her loving parents, Robert and Ruth Terry, her husband Kirk Layden,  her mother and father-inlaw, Barbara and Tom Layden, sisters Starla Terry, Allison Terry, Shannan Terry, brother Travis Terry and her nieces and nephew Bailey and Andie Brown, Reagan, Riley, Harper and Owen Terry.

Sommer’s heart of gold will continue to beat, as she gave the gift of life through the donation of her organs. Special thanks to the Gift of Hope for assisting us in letting our beloved Sommer live on.

Funeral services will be at ten o’clock in the morning, Friday, September 15, 2017 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road, Houston, Texas 77056.  Father Wayne Wilkerson will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Forgotten Pet Advocates of Houston.
