December 18, 1955 ~ April 17, 2021 (age 65) 65 Years Old

Tribute

Stephen (Steve) Alan Thorington passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 17, 2021. Steve was born December 18, 1955 in Worcester, Massachusetts, but grew up, and ultimately resided, in Houston, Texas. He received an undergraduate degree from The University of Texas and an MBA from Rice University. In 1982, Steve met Nancy Sternal in Dallas, Texas and three years later they were married at St. Anne Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. Over the next 35 years, Steve and Nancy explored the world, raised their son Andrew, and created memories that would last a lifetime. Steve had a highly successful career spanning banking at the Chase Manhattan Bank, executive positions at Seagull Energy, Ocean Energy, and Plains Exploration & Production, and as a board member of numerous companies including KMG Chemicals and EQT Corporation. He was generous with both his time and resources and dedicated to philanthropy including his board position at Dasra, an India based organization. Steve retired in 2006, which enabled him to pursue his greatest passions – travel, spending time in London, and creating a positive difference in the world. Steve was a kind and humble individual, a loving and supportive husband, an inspirational and encouraging father, and a steadfast friend. He will be missed by many and forgotten by none.

Steve is survived by his wife Nancy, his son Andrew Thorington and wife Jennifer, and his sister Marianne and her husband Don King. He is preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Alan Thorington, and his sister Sue (Dave) Grunenwald.

A celebration was held with friends and family to remember Steve's life and honor his legacy.
