Susan Schalk

February 10, 1960 ~ November 13, 2021 (age 61) 61 Years Old

Tribute

Susan Schalk, 61, beloved wife, sister and friend, passed away at MD Anderson in Houston on November 13, 2021, surrounded by loved ones.

Susan hailed from Wichita Falls, Texas and was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Betty June Schalk; and her brother Jim Schalk.

She is survived by her wife, Metta Miller, partner of 28 years; her brother John Schalk and his wife Denise Haywood and their daughter Gigi; many loving cousins; and Susan’s two rescue dogs, Macy and Pierre, who miss their mother.

Susan grew up in Wichita Falls and attended William Woods University in Missouri and Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.  A loyal friend, she met and kept lifelong friends from each place she lived.  After graduating she became a computer programmer for many years and moved on to other interests which kept her busy and always learning. Having boundless curiosity, she learned, among many other things, welding, knitting and flying.

In her free time, she was rarely idle, instead filling her time with one of the loves of her life, fly fishing, as well as golfing, bicycling, hiking, tennis, playing ukulele, horseback riding, RVing, restoring her 1931 Ford Model A, traveling extensively, and tinkering.

Even with all those interests and loves, what Susan loved most was those around her. She spent countless hours helping others, was the most incredible loving and devoted wife to Metta, an intensely caring sister to John and the most loyal, patient and kind person one could imagine.  She was quick to laugh and find the humor in life.  Her sense of humor and beautiful authentic laugh will be remembered forever.

A celebration of Susan’s life will be announced at a later date.

Susan had a great love for animals and would have liked for donations in her honor to be made to Claremore Animal Shelter, 815 W Ramm Road, Claremore, OK 74017 or to your local Animal Shelter.
